Hof van Cortenbach has been recognized as a classified monument since the year 1982. This impressive 16th-century city palace, conveniently located near the bustling Korenmarkt in the very heart of Mechelen, was constructed during the years 1520 to 1530 by Jan IV van Cortenbach, who belonged to a distinguished and notable family of the time. The building showcases traditional brick and sandstone architecture that is typical of the period, complete with beautifully steep gable roofs and a charming private chapel that adds to its allure. In addition to its remarkable architectural charm, the palace holds historical significance due to its connection to renowned figures, including the talented sculptor Jean Monet, who designed the striking fireplace, which is now proudly displayed at the Halle Gate Museum in Brussels.
